Yes, "744" is the IATA code for a 747-400 aircraft. If BA is selling First on a route, that route will normally have an aircraft with the New First cabin. Only if there is some difficulty which requires an unexpected aircraft substitution would an Old First cabin be used. See

The 777's First cabin will feel more spacious, but the layout of a First cabin in the nose section (Zone A) of a 747 has an iconic quality to it.
