Tried searching for an answer on this but my search capability is obviously very lacking.

I see that flying CX on V class ticket doesn't earn award miles on AA but does it earn status qualification miles?

The AA equivalent flight (AA marketed but CX operated) is about $300 more so I'm thinking of buying the CX ticket instead.
