If you've never been to the area before, why not try both?
Both the CLL and the BSH are in the heart of Banff National Park. BSH has more civilization around it, in that it is a luxury hotel in the mountains, but has lots of restaurants and attractions nearby, and much more night life. The CLL is in a more remote setting. If you're looking for lots of stores and restaurants, the CLL is not the place. If you're looking to be ideally positioned for beautiful hiking in the mountains, then it doesn't get any better than the CLL.
Basically, if you're not really into hiking type activities, then you may get bored in Lake Louise quickly. If you love mountain hiking and remote settings, then you may never get bored there.
If you're planning on exploring more of the Rockies than just the Banff area, Lake Louise is nicely positioned for seeing Yoho National Park and is closer to the start of the fabulous drive up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper.
