My understanding is the car seat cannot block aisle access for anyone not in the party with the infant. Obviously, a window or middle of center section of a two-aisle plane satisfies that. However, I also believe a carseat can be placed in the middle (or aisle, even) if the passengers between the carseat and the window are traveling with the baby.
