All is fine and well with 65 min, EXCEPT KA805 has a 25% on time performance. Loads are looking full already ex-PVG (post-cny travel?).

Being an AA regular, missed connections are a nightmare so maybe I shouldnt worry but what are my option to make it to NY without possibly getting stuck in the back of the bus on a middle seat on the HKG-YVR-JFK flight? Anything I can do proactively?

Fare class is B PVG-HKG and upgraded to U on HKG-EWR. Also OWS.
Mate, you're in a tight spot. Normally CX and KA are fantastic, as is HKIA, but ex-PVG with a 65 minute connection to a ONCE A DAY flight ex-HKG is not something I'd recommend.

Some options:

1.) Try to get to PVG early. Try to catch the earlier flight. Seriously. PVG is the worst port in the entire KA/CX network for delays. Nothing they can do. Shanghai area ATC is a disaster.

2.) Can you move your flight to CX846 to JFK? I'd try to do that immediately if it's possible, it gives you 1+ hour extra. (if you stay with CX890, but land before CX846 departs, I would be prepared to push CX to rebook you on CX846).

3.) I'm not sure how familiar with HKIA you are. Unfortunately, transit security is occasionally a massive bottleneck, and it's possible to work around it if you know the airport. Granted, if you are tight for time CX is likely going to have someone there to escort you. But in the event they don't, here are a few posts I've included in the past that might be of use. Regarding strategy...sometimes certain transit points get bottled up while another one a 5 minute walk away is wide open.
