Is there even a reissue? I'm asking AA to issue my ticket for the Z award fare while booked in J for the exact same flight as I'm currently on.

Unfortunately, the point is moot as AA indicated they need one segment to be in Z in order to be able to issue a ticket for Z fare and book in U. Since I'm only doing JFK-HKG, AA would not be able to comply.
