Online checkin has existed for the chain for quite a number of years, but it is slowly spreading to more and more hotels.

By using it, I have managed to snag better rooms than I might have otherwise gotten.

The main benefit (IME) is room selection, not saving time. In fact, I sometimes actually spend quite a bit of time on my computer trying to figure out which room I want!
