There are lots of benefits to flying out of YYT! Although the weather in the winter is especially unpredictable, getting past security usually takes < 5-10 mins, and check-in waits are minimal. Unfortunately the lounge is obviously small, but when it isn't over packed, it has a cozy atmosphere and great view. Baggage claiming also is (usually) fast.

I find eUpgrades are pretty easy to clear for YYT-YHZ or YYT-YYZ and have discovered certain routes that be cheaper than the YYZ alternative as well as having more mileage, mostly as you mentioned flying YYT-YYZ-LHR.
