It can sometimes be slightly advantageous to buy other points and convert them to WN. I am thinking of Daily Getaways or something similar.
That maybe true however if I am using my points on a travel companion and they decide not to go I Get a 100% of the points back, if I pay for with cash than they get travel funds for which I paid for and what if they hardly ever fly? but maybe I am off topic, but that's my reasoning for using points instead of cash
