Sounds like OP has a lot of lemonade!

A broken water main will not only affect your room but the entire property and probably many other properties in the area, so moving was probably not an option. And given the OP posted "they said the main had burst", sounds like he did speak with the FD.

Given such a massive issue, I'm surprised the property was not more pro-active in offering consideration. But yes, the time to address the issue is while on site. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't working on something anyways. But a complete comp is not out of order.
