500 milers don't expire, if your account remains active within the last 3 years. However when you drop below Gold, you're back to only using them on Y or B fares.
However, correct me if I'm wrong, miles flown towards earning 500 milers reverts to zero on March 1st. I'll have about 3,000 miles towards my next 10,000....only to watch them vanish on March 1.
