This is just US airlines whining like little children do. They want something for themselves (open skies which they take advantage of) but they don't want to share it with other airlines (ME3).
Tim Clarks comments are absolutely correct. EK connects places in the US to places in India where the US airlines never thought about serving, such as Seattle to Hyderabad, with a stop in Dubai.
And regarding EK's Milan flight, what happened with that? EK was allowed to continue operating the route.
This is business, where competition is one of the largest aspects. It's not the ME3's fault that they have better products then the US airlines. If the US airlines want to do better on these routes, have better products. If you had to choose between DL and EK for JFK-MXP, wouldn't you choose the airline with a first class cabin (if you want), chauffeur drive service, an amazing lounge at both JFK and MXP, and a much better product and service onboard?
Even as a DM, I would never fly DL to DXB, even if I lived in Atlanta. Why would I want a herringbone seat when I can get a private suite in F on EK?
And the word fair coming from Richard Anderson is hilarious.
