Any way to use one leg of a flight?

I have a return flight booked in CE to Hamburg and back (from LHR) in a few months. I am now probably unable to use the outward portion and the fare is unrefundable and unexchangeable according to the website. Is there anyway for me to just use the return leg? Am I right in thinking the whole booking gets cancelled if I don't turn up for the outward leg? Any advice welcome.
