Few questions:
Arriving on a Friday night approx 7PM Cathay JFK-HKG 16 hour flight. Traveling with my 87 year old mother. Our thought was to sleep overnight at the airport as long flight will be trying for her, even in F.

1) Am I reading airport website correctly that if I sleep at the airport I am NOT eligible to use the ferry service to Shenzhen the following day? Or is there a different ferry from the airport that we can use? Seems like a very easy and quick way to transit to Shenzhen.

Our flight arrives 7PM. I think last Ferry is at 9:30 PM. I would be too nervous to plan same night ferry transfer to Shenzhen -- the plane would be late, luggage couldn't be found for transit onto ferry, etc. If flight late we could always get hotel room and change transit plans to next day but last minute hotel price probably exorbitant. Is that nervousness unwarranted?

2) Assuming can't do a ferry, What would your transport suggestion be if we do do sleep at the airport--relatively easy (not a lot of transit changes), cost is not a major factor but is certainly a consideration. Anyone know how much the taxi from airport to border would cost? Then taxi from border to JW Marriott Shenzhen?

3) Our final destination is Guangzhou but that seems to be a long trek directly from the airport so I thought this might be a nice break. But I have read mixed reports on how interesting a town Shenzhen is. Is it just shopping or are there quality cultural museums, temples, etc things to do as a tourist? Is it an interesting walking/poking around city?

Another thought was to take a taxi from airport to Sha Tin Courtyard, sleep there, and then following morning do a day trip by metro to Shenzhen, back to CY to sleep. Then following day take bus directly Sha Tin to Guangzhou. But by going straight from the airport to Shenzhen we can save time and add an extra day in Guangzhou.
