Trying to figure out how the sopping portal from Southwest works.

When I buy something through the portal, do I have to pay with my southwest credit card?

If I do choose to use my SW credit card, do i get double points (points for shopping through the portal, and points for spending money through the CC)?

Any other tips on how to maximize the shopping portal are also appreciated.

The shopping portal is a great way to pack on some points!

To answer your questions, no you don't need to use a SW Visa in order to use the portal. But, if you do then you will get that extra point.

Example: Store xyz is offering 2 points per dollar spent. You make a $200 purchase with your SW Visa. You will get 400 points for the purchase and another 200 on the Visa. Total points will be 600. 400 will come from the portal and show up in your RR account and 200 will come thru via your Visa when the statement closes out.

Some tips: Watch for bonus points from retailer.

Look for "double dipping". This is only done with a handful, but Sears is the hot one for this and you can accumulate a large amount of points.
Example: 1st transaction buy a gift card. Second transaction use the gift card for the purchase you want. Double the points.

Make sure you shopping cart is empty when you start the transaction at a store. Example: Don't go directly to Target, choose all your purchases - then log in through the portal and just buy what is already in your cart. Sometimes it will not take.

Don't use discount codes that you find elsewhere.

Happy shopping!
