News on the cessation of Bangkok-Moscow, some interesting figures. I guess the Russian economic crisis has put a real dent in the volume of quality tourists from Russia.

Thai Airways to cease Bangkok-Moscow flights
Feb 5, 2015

Thai Airways will cease Bangkok-Moscow flights from March 29 and will close several loss-making routes as a part of its restructuring. It will also cease Madrid and Johannesburg service due to Russia’s economic problems, according to the carrier.

Thai International said it plans to resume Moscow flights as soon as the economic situation becomes stable.

Moscow-Bangkok is one of the most popular international routes from Russia, according to Russia’s Air Transport Sourcebook. In 2013, Russian airlines carried 523,996 passengers between the two capitals.

Thai Airways has faced tough competition from Russian airlines. The Russian travel market has provided Thailand with 1.5 million tourists per year.
