BTW, in days before internet, I did make a day trip from Delhi to Agra on a day Taj was not open. Ended up seeing from the river (which was cool but not same as actual visit) Had good time visiting Fatehour Sikri that day instead. It was neither my first trip or last trip to Taj, so it didnt matter.
For first-time or infrequent visitor, best to visit when Taj is open.
BTW, incidentally, AHC channel documentary shown today made some blunt but truthful comments on Taj Mahal vs numerous other architectural work elsewhere in India.
