I feel like I used to see plenty of flights were there was immediate availability so waitlisting not required. Esp to Asia, it is risky to "hope for the best" and gamble that waitlist comes through.
Are they just not releasing as much R at once so waitlist is only way to go?

Certain airports that have better chances? I'm out of EWR so that may be one of the issues
