I wonder how many seats have to be sold on that sort of plane in order for it to be profitable. I know that they make money on the transportation of cargo too. Maybe they can allot a certain percentage of seats on each flight for discount on the day of flight. Once those are gone, they're gone. This way, if a person is not willing to gamble on missing out, they'll book earlier. (Good thing about the Weekend Web fares though.)
