Can a UA *Gold get an advance seat in something like bulkhead, exit, better row..I was going to book a long haul domestic with AC (with UA miles) which was a SAVER if you can believe that, but NOT if I am at the mercy of last minute seat assignments or no preferred seating (6'5 kills that option for me)
Not without paying, or potentially getting lucky on a last minute seat assignment if all the other seats are taken. Only ones who get free preferred seats (bulkhead/exit row) on reward tickets are AC SE100K members. Even AC Elite 75k would have to pay on a reward ticket, so you're out of luck as a *G. In fairness, it is pretty similar to a *G traveling on UA - an AC *Gold isn't entitled to free E+ seating on UA either.
