Do not cancel your current rez until you know you can book a new one! There is no guarantee your cancellation will go back into inventory much less it will be there when you try to book.

Call SPG and ask them if they can convert the rez. If not, I doubt the property will be able to do it either. From discussions I've had with FDCs about changing a point stay, it sounds like SPG initiates the stay and the property can't make changes. I had to call into SPG to extend a stay.

But again, do not cancel unless you are ready to start searching other properties too.
