If you had status why didn't you get upgraded to First? My upgrade success rate on US as an AA elite is 90%+. I am always amazed how very few US elites fly on US since AA elites can only get upgrades at checkin.

They will offer you a tier challenge (6 one-ways to A-list), and if you're DCA based, you can get on virtually empty flights all the time. The only downside is the walk to terminal A, but it's good exercise.

Since I started flying WN to DCA, I haven't had a single flight where I didn't have a whole row to myself, which is better than fighting for an F upgrade on US or paying for one on AA. Plus, they have BYOD entertainment and wifi.
At least AA/US has the option of F upgrades, international travel, oneworld alliance benefits, lounge access, priority baggage delivery, same day standby for free, actual meals in premium cabins, extra legroom seats.
