The box is just a bit over the std. carry size of 22" x 14" x 9" (at least for Delta). It will fit through the scanner. As such, I would just carry it on and make sure your other personal item fits under you seat or check that instead.

If you do check it the airline will probably accept no responsibility as they will call it "electronics."
