Hello all,
I'm struggling to make this work. I've been spending far too much time on it these past few days, so I thought I would throw open the doors and see if anyone on here has any ideas.
We as a household have 180k avios. We are a family of 3. The plan had been to save up for another 6 months/1 year and then book J class redemptions to SIN (one way, returning using VS miles, likely from HKG as getting partner redemptions on VS can be troublesome) for mid/late 2016. The big BAEC crunch has rather forced our hand, and I feel that if we don't redeem before then, we might be stuffed. We are a bit cash poor at the moment so it's not ideal to be booking anything - any bookings need to be as cheap as possible.
So, how can we get to SIN with a mere 180k? We would need another 30k on BA which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the £1.1k price tag attached to the reward booking! We are MAN based so MAN - HKG on Cathay would be good...180k for 3 of us in J with good availability and much cheaper (~£600). However would need a return from HKG-SIN and wouldn't have any avios spare to do that, which just adds cash cost to the booking.
I looked at AY HEL - SIN which is ideal at 60k avios + just £149pp, however it seems AY only release 2 reward seats per flight on that route, which is rather frustrating. The same problem is apparent on MH CDG - KUL.
QR via DOH is cash cheap enough but would only be possible if we did half the legs in economy. And if we were doing that, why don't we just save the hassle of a transfer in DOH and do MAN - HKG or HEL - SIN in eco?
This is turning into a nightmare that is distracting me at work!

I am coming to the conclusion that it just isn't going to be possible with the amount of avios we have. Alas Mrs Armodeen is a bit set on SIN as opposed to someplace else. Anything I haven't thought of?
Thanks
