You should also check and see what time security and your airline's check in desk open at your airport. No sense in getting there at 4 am if they don't open until 5.
I've made this mistake!! Especially for charter and low-cost. They'll open at a set time and not a minute before. Legacy airlines usually have counters that are open all the time (if they operate a lot of flights out of that airport) and will let you check-in whenever you get to the desk, even mixing flights. Charters and low-costs will open for that specific flight with no flexibility.
