I thought about this option but didn't know if it were possible, so didn't mention it. But yeah this would be ideal. And come to think of it, takkyubin generally have really good service, so wouldn't surprise me if they offer something like this. It is definitely worth looking into. Might cost a bit more as you say but would allow OP and luggage to go their separate ways. Very convenient.
