When I first hit silver, I had arrived back from I think MUC. Quite a queue in front of me, when there were only 3 e-gates. So, really little choice between the two.

I spotted the fast track queue, didn't read the rest. Just saw there was not a single person in it. So, jumped at the chance. The immigration bloke didn't even bat an eyelid. Didn't mention I'd done anything wrong at all. Ignorance in this case, was bliss.

The next time a similar situation came up. I just looked down the row to see if it was busy. A HAL dragon swivelled the sign toward me and pointed at the "Non EU passports only" part making it clear (not in a polite, or impolite way, so to speak) I wasn't to use the lane at all.

So, that showed me and I joined the terrible queue.

I have to say, since they opened more e-gates, the queues have been better (at my arrival times at least). But, the quote from the HAL cyborg that there were never queues was nonsense. There's usually a moderate queue at best.
