Not sure if routing via New York would help. The connection time in DXB on the outbound is 1 hr 25 mins, and the inbound is 6 hrs 25 mins. The fare works out to CAD 4336. There are tons of cheap fares to JFK these days from YYZ. The tickets to JFK would bring the fare to what you are paying from YYZ. It would just beat the torture of the 15 hrs 15 min stop and 13 hrs 15 mins, especially having flight times of 14 hours and more to and from YYZ. Ouch

Because of my wife's work schedule we had to change the schedule of our trip..
We're heading out in 5 weeks and surprisingly was able to secure Dubai Connect on adult fares that were $810 CAD/each + taxes ($402).
Paying $500 total more than what I would have paid in April, but the Dubai Connect makes up for the difference IMO.
I'm travelling with a 4 yr old and a 17 month old, so I think a quick shower and nap on a real bed before the 2nd leg of the journey (after 13 hours in the air would do us some good too).
