I do the ORD Marathon way too often. Going from high L to G19? Been there. Even high L to K18/19 is no fun.

If others don't know this. Doors close 10 min prior to departure, AND they can close early (more rare, and usually when they have all passengers). But a 45 minute connection gives you no more than 35 minutes to scan your ticket. IF your bag is checked at the gate because overhead bin space is gone (ERJ175 is a popular plane for this); you now have an additional 3-10 minutes lost. Your 45 minute connection has just been reduce to as low as 25 minutes.

If your flight is 15 minutes late. You now have 10 minutes to go from say L6 to H18. You better be physically fit, and capable of running with a roller bag.

Now if you checked your luggage - you may just end up with delayed bags here, and you don't lose those minutes to gate checking your beg. But if you have to gate check it........
