It always happens that some pax try to get what they didn't pay for whether it's sneaking into a lounge or using faculties or sneaking up to the J/F bar but it's also fair that cabin crew/ lounge agents try to protect the privledges of those who paid for a service within the norms of being courteous to the passenger. On the flip side I have seen passengers being very rude to staff when they are told no and IMHO that is usually the behaviour of someone who knows they are in the wrong.
Drawn curtain is absolutely not a standard sign of class change.
For example, AF draws curtains of their mid-section J-galley (on 77W) to avoid visual and noise "pollution", as the bar is situated there. On AF, blue curtains mean J, and red curtains are for F. If not clear, there is a written sign saying "do not enter". No room for unvoluntary mistake.
If curtains meant "no entry", I wouldn't be able to go take a shower from my F seat, as there is a curtain in between ...
As for the lav sign on EK388, the arrow clearly goes up and left (or right), as if you have to go further and turn. It is absolutely not a standard sign of "go back where you came from". I can take a photo for you next time I ride a 388 two weeks from now.
Don't get me wrong, I always go to my class lav whether I fly J or F. And I've seen rude J going to the front after clearly being told by FA to go aft ... But that's not the only uncivilized behavior on board.
