You can apply for TSA precheck in more locations than Global Entry. I would need to drive five hours for GE and only 45 minutes in Panama City, FL for TSA pre-check. I agree Global Entry makes sense if its convenient and you plan on international flying.
same boat. Also, GE (ambiguous) terms states holder "qualifies" for pre-check in most cases.
