MLE is India subcontinent so it's a different zone. Some people choose to fly into CMB (Colombo, Sri Lanka) which is still considered Asia Zone 2 and then buy a cheap flight from CMB-MLE. I think you can even get Emirates business class for very cheap ($200 if i remember correctly). Coach seats are dirt cheap for that route.
