I literally got sprayed by sparkling wine a few weeks ago when the cork popped out of a bottle and literally sprayed everyone in the vicinity. FA cleaned it up and apologized, and it wasn't red wine, so no harm done.

I'm surprised that the odour of wine nearby would be enough to warrant a doctor visit, but to each their own.
The OP isn't likely familiar with wine, the odour appeared strong so he couldn't be sure what the cause of the child's discomfort could be. The pediatrician visit put everyone at ease. It's hard to fault a parent for being caring.

We westerners are probably familiar with wine, but I know people who can't tolerate alcohol (makes 'em physically ill), and for example Mormons (15 million of them) don't drink, and neither do Muslims - nearly one quarter of the people in the world are Muslim.
