OK, I'll bite: what's different between Maryland and Virginia?

I worked in Rosslyn for three years but honestly never paid a whole lot of attention to minor nuances between VA, DC, and MD...beyond the usual yapping amongst friends who went to UMD, UVA, or V-Tech.
