Bear in mind that you can still do the OneUp bid to PE if booked in the Skycouch, although you might regard the money for Skycouch to have been "lost", if the OneUp doesn't clear (which frankly, is likely if you have no NZ status, and NZ recognition upgrades and Elite Airpoints upgrades clear first) it is your "insurance policy" in being stuck in Y.

As others have said elsewhere, Skycouch can work if one of you sleeps while the other sits upright (with feet in lap) and then swap halfway.
