While it may be common on FT, I doubt that the average business traveler pays more for a ticket, spends more time in the air and flies a connection over a non-stop, because the UG % is better.
In the end, if you jump ship from DL to AA, the demand for AA rises and the price of the AA ticket will as well. So, you jump back to DL and so on forever and ever.
