Foreign Flag for Domestic US flights — Cabotage

I saw a discussion about Cabotage and Foreign flag carriers being allowed to compete in the domestic market, but it was in a thread that was not really related to that so I thought it would be a good idea for its own thread

Other than the fact that it's highly unlikely that the US Government would change that law, I was confused as to why everyone thought that it would lower fares.

If flights were to be thrown open I doubt much of anything would change.

The FF carriers might be interested in flying a few domestic routes, JFK to LAX/SFO but any routes they would be interested in already have significant competition. Plus most of the domestic airports they would like to go between one or both are slot restricted.

Just wanted to get the groups thoughts in its own thread.
