As Irishguy28 said, it is an old historic arrangemen for BA/QF to share routes and revenue. This should end now that QF has jumped into bed with Emirates but it maybe a subject to an old but separate arrangement. BA is not very committed to Australia having gone down to one flight a day from Sydney so it just has not bothered to change this given QF is still part of OneWorld.
