As an American, I wish that I could be offended by this, but I have to concede your point.
I am often (not always, but often) left with the impression that the more impassioned advocates of the God-given right to recline feel that the little silver button in their armrest empowers them to forgo all semblance of social graces and civility. "By Gawd, I've got the right to do this, and to Hell with you!"
