EU Delay Compensation

Hi All,

I wanted to gather your thoughts on this.

Recently one of my EVA flights from AMS-BKK was delayed by over 18 hours and I understand I am entitled to compensation from the airline under the EU Denied Boarding Regulation 261/2004

Compensation according to this regulation is 600 Euros as confirmed online, however after discussing this with Eva they are only willing to accept 300 Euros and informing me that the amounts stated in the regulation are "maximum" of course this does not make sense. Why would the law have a maximum value compensation...instead it should be minimum right?

After a lot of negotiation they are still not budging and informed me that I will need to take the case to court and put EVA in front of a judge.

I have since conducted some research online and made an official complaint to the ILT in Amsterdam whom are the governing body there for EU Denied Boarding. It may take up to 6 months to get a reply

However I am wanting to know if in fact my research is correct and if you suggest any other alternative course of action?

FYI, the delay was horrible with no/little updates and no transport to the overnight hotel provided of which I had to pay out of my own pocket and did not keep any receipt. If it was not such a horrendous experience I would not bother, however I feel the situation was not dealt with professionally which just drives me to claim rather than let go.

Your thoughts please.....
