Hotel safe. Make a photocopy of the picture page and carry that with you, but not the original passport. Never carry your original passport unless there is a specific reason you need to for that day (like checking into a hotel).

Doesn't exist. Yes, you will see a lot of travel agents and websites saying you have to carry your passport. But all you really need is a photocopy of your passport. Particularly if you are American. That passport is incredibly valuable and thieves would love to get their hands on it. European passports are also targets.
