Virgin have been doing this for a while, BA haven't responded. The three circumstances I've heard of status matching have been:
1) Part of a corporate deal arrangement for a new big customer;
2) For an existing corporate customer when a senior management figure joins the company;
3) If BA takes over or remains in a route when a competitor has pulled out (e.g. BMI leaving GLA).
So in this case I can't see it happening unless there is some other factor involved.
But more important than a Gold card is a greeting from the participants of Flyertalk, so welcome
Bjornw, welcome to the BA Board, and after a few weeks here I suspect you will learn enough to get Gold one way or the other. Welcome on board.
