SchmeckFlyer is suggesting is what was tried with Fyra. And those trains being of such a bad quality that they had to be withdrawn is the best thing that happened to train travel in the Benelux in years.
If not, we would have been stuck with 2 expensive and inflexible options between NL and BE: Thalys and Fyra. At least now we still have the 2 options: fast/expensive/non-flexible (Thalys) and slow/cheaper/flexible (IC).
