Base fare is $74 on US Airways' Web site. Travel any day you want until 10/3 and you can return the same day. Apparently this is part of a fare sale that lasts through 6/11 and all the majors are matching. If you do this on UA you can stretch it out to 6 legs and around $104-$109 depending on where you connect.

Right now I'm considering ORD-PHL-IAD-PIT-IAD-CAK-ORD for 7/4 (pricing around $107 incl tax on UA; 3150 status miles). Got nothing else to do on the Fourth, so why not.

My question is this: Do the drawbacks of doing a mileage run on the Fourth (crowds) outweigh the benefits (potential to get bumped; also 7/4 is a Wednesday this year so it might not be too busy)??
