If Rev mgmt works properly, all other things being equal, you should not get upgraded the more you travel as they should stop upgrading you if you don't ever buy a higher cabin.
I agree that higher status are, on average, upgraded more often.
And there is obviously some correlation between the flight frequency and the status.
