One does not need to be high revenue, loyal, or a relative of someone to get the treatment, however, there is an added cost. From second hand experience (although not on AC) one can receive the perks for a single trip, should one require it, and, as the article states, it is at the discretion of the airline to accommodate said request. It is also offered to those who make decisions for large corporations and other key customers.
But where does this "knowledge" come from? It must have some source other than a 'feeling'?
