Just an update, the call to CKGS was less than successful, the person could only read back text from an obviously prepared script. At the end I did say "but you haven't answered my question" and repeated that the application says 1 month and that's a problem. He then said he'd made a note in the file and that the processor in the office would take care of it. I'm going with that and will take this all in next week. I asked several times that I'd heard tourist visas are almost always issued for 6 months, could he confirm that and I got the same nonsense back.
I'll report back in after we've been to the CKGS Chicago office.
I'm pretty sure the former CGIs in Chicago and their current government acquaintances know this stuff better than CKGS reps answering phones. It's not easy to end up with a one month Indian tourist visa issued in the US in a US passport. I hope CKGS "notes" don't confuse things. Look forward to the rest of the story.
