The ones that are really "successful" are those who are run as completely separate airlines under one ownership - e.g. Qantas and Jetstar, Korean and Jin Air etc.

Their different cost structures means that the LCC can actually benefit from the lower costs. With Ted/Song etc. you had a low-fare concept but the same operating costs as mainline - which is doomed from the beginning.
