I don't really get how many hotels are so greedy with upgrades if there's clearly availability... Seems like an easy way to make status pax feel extremely welcome, without costing the hotel too much. Anyway, good on you for getting to the honeymoon suite in the end - even though it would probably be more fun with a companion
Rooftop bar seems lovely though, any limitations on the welcome drink? (i.e. proper welcome drinks or only "mocktails"?)
Do you have, by any chance, stayed at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza too and can compare (location not being an important factor)?
