Redemption of eCredits on delta.com temporarily suspended
Just spoke with an agent who informed me that redeeming eCredits online at delta.com has been suspended until a major head-scratching glitch is resolved. The target date for restoration of eCredit redemption is Jan 29. Until that time, you must call a Delta agent to redeem any credits.
This is due to a mysterious bug that I noticed last night and reported to Delta. If you'll check your wallet, you will likely find that there is an eCredit matching every ticket that you have purchased in the last several days. The amount of this credit is the ticket price - $200, not coincidentally the amount of the standard change fee. (It's possible that this behavior is different for refundable tickets or those with different change fees.) I now have 3 credits in My Wallet that fall under this scenario.
I noticed this last night while searching for credits when purchasing a ticket. I found a credit that I didn't recognize, and then noticed the expiration date was 1/20/2016, meaning that the credit must have originated on Jan 20, 2015. I finally put it together that it had something to do with another trip I planned this week. After then noticing that the amount was for exactly $200 less than a ticket that I had purchased (actually that I purchased, canceled under Risk Free Cancellation, then re-purchased) I initially suspected that the ticket I canceled was incorrectly assessed the change fee.
So I called to question this and was told that the credit was for the active reservation. I actually talked to two different agents because the first agent told me this but treated like it was sort of normal. So I called again and the 2nd agent also told me that it was for the active reservation, but she couldn't figure out why there was a credit for it. She also said that she had spoken with another customer who reported the same thing, so she knew that there was a much deeper problem and escalated the issue accordingly.
